Handfasting

Recently I was asked to include a handfasting into the ceremony. Handfasting is another way of symbolising unity just as two rings are a sign of unity.

The significance of the ritual of handfasting is with the physical bonding of each other literally. The couple’s hands are tied together.

This can be done in a range of ways and some examples are:
1. A cord/ribbon/cloth is tied around the couples clasped hand often by the celebrant
2. As above but by another person
3. As above but by more than one person
Colours can be given significance and a range of different coloured ribbons can represent different
Regardless of the ritual used there are no hard and fast rules so feel free to create your own meaning around these rituals.
